Privacy policy

The short version

• Calkub works fully without an account.
• Your meals, targets and settings are stored on your iPhone.
• Data leaves your device only when you ask: when you scan a meal photo, scan a barcode, or send us a message.
• No ads, no third-party trackers, and we do not sell or share your data.

What this covers

This policy covers the Calkub iPhone app and the website calkub.app ("we" means the developer of Calkub). For anything about your personal data, reach us through the support page.

What stays on your iPhone

Your logged meals, meal photos, weights, targets and settings are stored on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers, and deleting the app deletes them (unless you turned on iCloud backup; see below).

What leaves your iPhone, and only when you ask

1. Meal photos you choose to scan

When you tap scan, that photo and any hint you typed are sent over an encrypted connection to our analysis service, which runs on Vercel. The service passes the photo to Alibaba Cloud's Qwen-VL model (Model Studio, international endpoint) to identify the dishes and estimate their nutrition. Our servers do not keep the photo or write it to logs. Alibaba Cloud processes it under its own service terms. The photo is never sent with your name, account or any identifier.

2. Barcode numbers you scan

When you scan a product barcode, the app sends only the barcode number to Open Food Facts, a public product database, to look up that product's nutrition. Nothing else about you is sent.

3. Messages to support

When you send us a message from the app or from this website, what travels is the topic, your message, the email address you chose to type (optional, and never filled in for you), and the language you used. From the app, three device figures are added: app version, iOS version and device model (for example "iPhone17,2", never your device's name). Your meals, photos, weights and targets are not sent.

Messages pass through our server on Vercel and are forwarded via Make.com to our support inbox in Notion. We use your email address only to reply to that message. The server never writes your message or email to its logs and does not store your IP address. A salted one-way hash of it, which can't be turned back into the address, is used to limit repeat submissions and is attached to the message for spam checks.

Sign in with Apple

Optional. If you use it, we ask Apple for your name only, never your email address or phone number. That name is kept on your device.

iCloud backup

Optional, and off until you switch it on. With it on, your data goes to your own private iCloud (CloudKit) database, not to a server of ours, and we cannot reach it. Meal photos are never uploaded to iCloud. The names of the backed-up records are readable by Apple, even though their contents are encrypted.

Apple Health

Optional. If you switch it on, Calkub reads two kinds of data from Health: workouts and active energy, so it can add them back to your daily calorie budget. Calkub never writes anything to Health. Health data is read on your iPhone, is never sent to us, and is never used for advertising or marketing. You can revoke access at any time in the Health app.

Payments

Every subscription is billed by Apple. Payment details stay with Apple; we never see or store your card or payment information. No subscriptions are on sale yet.

This website

calkub.app uses no cookies, no analytics and no trackers. Fonts and images are served from our own domain. Our host, Vercel, processes standard request data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the pages, and keeps short-lived logs.

Keeping and deleting data

• On your iPhone: delete the app to delete everything.
• iCloud backup: remove it under Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → Calkub.
• Support messages: kept only as long as needed to handle your request. Ask us to delete one through the support page, quoting its reference.

Your rights

Under Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019) you can ask to access, correct or delete personal data we hold, or object to its processing. Contact us through the support page. Most of your data lives on your own device, where you control it directly.

Changes

When the app changes how it handles data, we update this page and the date at the top.
